Elisabeth Bell
"I was born in France, settled in the UK where in addition to my fine art work I have had the opportunity to work in teaching, textiles, illustration, publishing and guidance. I have exhibited a variety of work since 1978.
I now live in rural France. I exhibit my work both in the UK and in France.
Working in mixed media, charcoal, acrylic and oil, a recurring theme in my work is power and scale. I start with something concrete – a figure, still life or study – and, working fast with charcoal or paint, achieve a vivid depiction of the interaction between mass, weight and thrust. To begin with, my work was clearly narrative and that narrative element survives, but in a more abstract way."
